The Hastings Line will be a series of nine walks on Saturdays through the Summer from Charing Cross to Hastings seafront going through all stations on the connecting line. Each walk will be 7 to 10 miles covering a total of 77 miles by the end. Each walk can be completed in two shorter stages if preferred.
A Hastings Line 2017 information pack, which includes route notes and 1:20,000 scale route maps for each of the nine walks will be available during each walk for £2.00. Copies of the information pack may be downloaded from this website as well as copies of the information for each walk. See the menu item above or the link below:
The Hastings Line 2017
With the regular engineering works on the South Eastern railway network every weekend it is difficult to give the public transport details too far in advance. The details of the transport arrangements for each walk will be shown on this website a week before each walk.
The first walk is on the 6th May from Charing Cross to Hither Green station.

‘Darent Days’ concluded with two very successful walks this month, each followed by convivial celebratory group meals in Dartford. A huge round of thanks to the walks leaders who braved the dismal weather earlier this year and ran the walks so well over the summer. A particularly special thank you to Anne for pulling all the walks plans together and editing the final copies, and to Kevin for making them so widely available through our own website. Particular thanks to Ralph for devising, documenting, and leading the original walks series ten years ago. In the words of the rousing old song, we’re truly ‘Happy When We’re Hiking!‘
One of the regular walkers has taken some excellent photographs of the Eastern Extent (5), Otford Orifice and Chalk Channel (6) and Shuttle Shuffle and Wyncham Stream Wander (8) walks.

In 2007 Ralph Palfrey devised a long distance path of about 77 miles from Charing Cross, the official centre point of London, to Hastings seafront, passing all stations on the connecting railway line.
This second set of walks will be by a series of nine linear station to station stages. These are included in the public walks programme of Environment Bromley (EnBro) for 2017. Each walk will include a picnic lunch / pub stop, and will be repeated on the following Saturday, enabling each whole stage to be covered by two shorter stages over both dates if preferred.
